Hop Skip & Jump Wigan

DSC04357

Hop Skip and Jump Wigan was officially opened by the BBC’s Louise Minchin on Wednesday 18th November 2015. She was joined on the day by HS&J trustees and the generous benefactors who have helped make flexible respite care a reality in Wigan: David Whelan and Martin Ainscough.

Mr Whelan, speaking at the launch, said that ‘Wigan is honoured and delighted to have you - Hop Skip and Jump fills a massive, massive gap’, whilst Louise Minchin praised the wonderful work of HS&J, saying ‘I have to read so much bad news; it’s wonderful to be here today talking about such good news!’

We wouldn’t be where we are today without the wonderful support of everyone at Wigan Council, John Harker and our friends at the Wigan Youth Zone, Bill Fairhurst, Martin Ainscough and particularly David Whelan. Thank you all so much!

Why not come and have a look around our fantastic centre today and see how we can help you and your family!

Hop Skip and Jump Wigan

Hop Skip and Jump Wigan was launched by HS&J ambassador Louise Minchin on Wednesday 18th November 2015.

We are thrilled to be opening our first care centre in the North West - it’s been a long time coming! The new unit will provide flexible and immediate care to children and young adults with disabilities and special educational needs, with support for their families. Hop Skip and Jump’s care allows parents and carers the opportunity to have a break from the responsibilities of full-time care.

The new unit, located next to the Wigan Youth Zone, is a state of the art facility, which will provide families in the North West with the highest quality care. Equipped with a large soft play area, light and dark sensory rooms and a fully-accessible wet room and changing facility, Hop Skip and Jump will be available to anyone, no matter how complex their need. From physical disabilities to additional needs and learning difficulties, HS&J’s staff team are trained to support all conditions and pride themselves in never turning anyone away.

Clarissa Mitchell, founder trustee of the Hop Skip and Jump Foundation said:

‘We are delighted to be coming to the North West at last. This new centre is a flagship resource for the local community and we are so looking forward to meeting everyone in Wigan. Our work perfectly complements that of our colleagues at the Wigan Youth Zone, ensuring that there is somewhere to go for everyone in the town. We are really excited to build on this partnership, and look forward to working with other organisations in the local area.’
