Afternoon Tea with Elizabeth Hurley and Robert Buckland

Thank you to all who attended Afternoon Tea with Elizabeth Hurley and Robert Buckland on Monday 15th November at the House of Commons.

There was an overwhelming support for our new centre in Swindon and many MP’s have asked for us to open new centers in their constituency.

Elizabeth Hurley identified the need through quoting different friends of hers and she was followed by 3 fathers giving their own case histories.

The fact that each one of them wept as they recalled the lack of help and Day Care available made Hop Skip and Jump are more determined than ever to increase Flexible, Immediate, Sustainable and Cost affect Day Care to the whole of the UK.

Robins Star Visits Hop Skip & Jump

The Hop Skip & Jump Swindon Appeal has received a boost in the form of a visit from Swindon Town FC Captain Jonathan Douglas.

The Robins midfielder paid a visit to Hop Skip & Jump’s sister centre near Cheltenham to see meet children, volunteers and staff, and to find out more about how the centres operate.

Hop Skip & Jump, Swindon, Town FC’s Charity of the Year, has a big appeal underway to build a new centre for children with special needs in the town’s Lydiard Park. The new centre will offer flexible, immediate and sustained day care for the children, and support for their families.

During his visit, Jonathan Douglas took time out to play football with some of the children at the centre, and to launch the new Hop Skip & Jump orange wristbands which the Club will be selling at upcoming matches for £2 each to help raise money for the new play centre.

Development manager for Hop Skip & Jump, Lynne Godwin said “We are absolutely delighted to have the support of Swindon Town Football Club in our efforts to raise funds for a new Hop Skip and Jump centre in Swindon.  Jonathan’s visit to our existing centre in Gloucestershire was a great success and the children were delighted to meet him.”

“Hop Skip and Jump has been successfully working with children with special needs and their families to provide care and respite since 1981.  Both our Cheltenham centre and our one in Bristol are extremely popular and we have people travelling to them from all over the country which is why we are now raising money to build a new centre.

“We’re also really pleased that the Club will be lending a hand by selling Hop Skip and Jump wristbands to help us reach our fundraising target.”

Thank you - Syd Jackson

Syd Jackson completed the 50 mile race in 10 hours and 12minutes.  He has raised £1000 for Hop Skip and Jump Swindon and all of this money will be going towards the building costs of our new centre.

A huge thank you to the Brunel Brass Band and St. Andrew’s Methodist Church for an amazing concert on Friday 28th January, 2011.  £668 was raised in total which will be divided equally between the church and Hop Skip and Jump.  It was lovely evening, and if you would like to learn more about the Brunel Brass band or St. Andrews Methodist Church please visit their websites www.brunelbrass.co.uk  or www.standrewsmethodistchurchswindon.btck.co.uk

Swindon resident Bobby Faull has raised hundreds of pounds for the appeal by doing a sponsored bike ride from John o’ Groats to Land’s End! She was welcomed in Swindon by the Mayor and his wife, and Clarissa Mitchell (founder of Hop Skip & Jump).

Thanks Bobby!

Thanks girls!

In June Alex Kininmonth, his Godson and his dog walked 12 miles with a canoe from the source of the Thames to its first navigable point at Cricklade and then canoed the 160 miles to the Thames Barrier, camping each night on the river bank.

An amazing effort which raised us hundreds of pounds!

Esso Garages around Swindon kindly raised cash for Hop Skip & Jump through collections in their service stations. They raised £1,500!

Thanks Esso!
